Our Mission
Our work is powered by a deeper purpose. Lost Words Studio is the creative heart of the Free Linguistics Conference (FLC), a conference dedicated to empowering linguistic diversity and supporting Indigenous and minority languages since 2007. Our Unique Approach
We publish stories with substance. Our books are crafted with care and intention, often emerging from real-world collaborations that blend art, education, and community. A perfect example is our debut title, The Frog River. This project began with the wisdom of a Kuku Yalanji elder, was developed by university students, and was brought to life by a team of artists and musicians, resulting in a book complemented by translations and educational workbooks. This collaborative, multi-sensory model isn’t just for one book—it’s the blueprint for our studio.

The Frog River
Dive into The Frog River, a beautifully illustrated and poetic story that teaches the timeless lesson of teamwork and the power of unity. Set by a swift and wide river, this enchanting tale follows two frogs, Jack and Mark, whose contrasting personalities—boldness and caution—lead to both missteps and growth.
When a red kangaroo and a small possum seek their advice on crossing the river, Jack’s overconfidence and Mark’s cautious warning clash, resulting in dangerous consequences. A wise platypus intervenes, urging the brothers to set aside their differences and work together. When an old wombat needs help, Jack and Mark finally combine their strengths to guide him safely across the river. Through their journey, they learn that teamwork, love, and foresight can overcome even the mightiest challenges.
