The Frog River
A lyrical story about courage, caution, and the power of working together.
Set beside a swift and shimmering river, The Frog River follows two frog brothers, Jack and Mark. Jack is bold and fearless. Mark is thoughtful and careful. Each believes he knows the best way forward — until their conflicting advice places others at risk.
When a wise platypus steps in, the brothers are faced with a challenge: help an old wombat cross the river safely. To succeed, they must learn that courage without caution can be reckless — and caution without courage can hold others back. Only by combining their strengths can they guide their friend to safety.
This beautifully illustrated story invites young readers to reflect on cooperation, responsibility, foresight, and love.

A Story Rooted in Community
The Frog River is more than a picture book — it is a collaborative project shaped by conversation, community, and cross-cultural dialogue.
The story’s message of unity was inspired by discussions with Kuku Yalanji elder Uncle Bennet in Far North Queensland. From this seed, the project grew through collaboration with students, educators, and community partners connected to the University of Sydney. Together, they developed a narrative that reflects shared values of care, cooperation, and collective responsibility.
