The Story Behind The Frog River
The Frog River is more than a story—it’s a collaborative journey that bridges communities, classrooms, and art.
It began with a conversation with Kuku Yalanji elder Uncle Bennet in Far North Queensland. His insights on unity and cooperation became the heart of the story, grounding it in real wisdom and connection.
From this inspiration, the project grew through the University of Sydney’s LNGS 7501 – Professional Practice course. Students, stakeholders, and community members worked together to shape a narrative that speaks to shared values and real-world needs.

The world of The Frog River is brought to life through:
- Stunning Watercolour Artwork: Artist Yan Liu captures the beauty and emotion of the story with vibrant, evocative illustrations.
- Original Music: An accompanying composition by Madilyn Tyzzer and Hayden White adds a layer of depth, creating an immersive experience for readers and listeners.
An Educational Resource
The project extends beyond the book. Students have translated the story into Cantonese and Putonghua and developed comprehensive language learning workbooks.
